Attracting families to Big Spring Family Acquatic Center and Water Park is another example of the family-first approach that has proven successful for Big Spring.

The Big Spring Family Aquatic Center and Water Park, located at 12501 Northridge Road in Midland, is Midland’s first water park.

The project will cost $43.5 million, including $19 million for land acquisition and $21.5 million for infrastructure. The city will contribute $10.5 million, and the county is expected to contribute $10 million.

At first glance, the big spring and the water park look like just another kind of business. The spring provides water, and the water park provides fun. And like almost any business, they are competing with each other. But most businesses provide things people already have. The big spring is different. It works like a pump. When you turn a faucet, you turn water into the big spring. And when the tap is turned off, the spring pushes it out through the taps. The big spring is what makes the city work. If you turn a faucet, the water comes out of the tap. But that turns on the faucet, and that turns off the pump, and that, in turn, causes the water in the system to slowly leak out. If the faucet is old, or improperly installed, or badly maintained, then the water in the pipes will leak out more slowly. And eventually, if the system is a big one, the water will be gone.
